Artificial Cognition

چکیده

The purpose of natural cognitive systems appears to be to allow the organism to respond more rapidly to it’s environment and thus survive. This is achieved in two ways. First there are reflexes, the built-in actions an organism will take to stimulus. The second is the prediction of what the future state of the immediate environment will be and thus avoid harmful situations. The greater the intelligence of a NC system, the further into the future it predicts. Humans often plan many years into the future.

Detection of Single and Dual Incipient Process Faults Using an Improved Artificial Neural Network

Changes in the physicochemical conditions of process unit, even under control, may lead to what are generically referred to as faults. The cognition of causes is very important, because the system can be diagnosed and fault tolerated. In this article, we discuss and propose an artificial neural network that can detect the incipient and gradual faults either individually or mutually. The mai...

Phenomenology and Artificial Intelligence

Phenomenology is often thought to be irrelevant to artificial intelligence and cognitive science research because first-person descriptions do not reach to the level of genuine causal explanations. Though phenomenology taken in this weak sense may not be useful, the method of phenomenology taken more formally may well produce fruitful results. Husserl’s phenomenological reduction, or epoché, se...

Transformations in Cognitive Science: Implications and Issues Posed

Cognitive science currently offers models of cognition that depart substantively from those of information processing models and classical artificial intelligence, while it embraces methods of inquiry that include case-based, ethnographic, and philosophical methods. To illustrate, five overlapping approaches that constitute departures from classical representational cognitive science are briefl...

Embodied artificial agents for understanding human social cognition

In this paper, we propose that experimental protocols involving artificial agents, in particular the embodied humanoid robots, provide insightful information regarding social cognitive mechanisms in the human brain. Using artificial agents allows for manipulation and control of various parameters of behaviour, appearance and expressiveness in one of the interaction partners (the artificial agen...

Towards an experience-based artificial intelligence

Certain theories of cognitive development, of the evolution of cognition, and of knowledge representation (Nelson 1895, Barsalou 1999, Donald 1991, among others) have indicated that the episode is a central element to understand the first stages of cognitive development, as well as of certain basic cognitive abilities, such as intelligent behavior. Developing these approaches, we introduce the ...

Foundations of Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence was developed in 1956 and came into existence as a paradigm of cognition. It derived a powerful and lusty philosophical patrimony of functionalism and affirmatism. The history has shown a turn away from the functionalism of standard AI toward an alternative position that re-asserts the priority of development, interaction, and, more recently, emotion in cognitive systems...
